It's along the same lines - surreal and strange with a dose of the supernatural. I think I reviewed it on my blog.

And I've wondered the same thing about Lethem. That his books are so disparate that his readership must be pretty hit and miss. Then again, it's sort of interesting to see what he comes up with next. As long as one has an open mind and likes to read well-written things outside one's comfort zone, Lethem might be just the thing.Kris aka theWireSmith - Bookmarquehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01138081136259131486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13842999.post-26195953622250437512007-09-11T14:14:00.000-04:002007-09-11T14:14:00.000-04:00I remember reading a blurb about Lethem that said ...I remember reading a blurb about Lethem that said something like, The unusual thing about Lethem is that he sets a new goal, or new objective, every time he writes a new book.

I'm no Lethem expert, but that seems right to me. GUN and MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN don't have much in common (other than the detective protags), and FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE has never seemed appealing to me. I wonder, how consistant is his readership? With most writers you can make the assumption that if you like one of their books, you'll probably like another.

genius: K.I.T. stands for Keep In Touch. Did half your high school write that in your year book, or was that just me? And why does my brain insist on storing such useless information?

thorn: The Wall of the Sky, The Wall of the Eye looks great, and Harvest just reprinted it this year! Looks like the type of Lethem that I'll really like.BookCannibal9https://www.blogger.com/profile/14615469374819040342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13842999.post-16849839523411365182007-09-10T18:04:00.000-04:002007-09-10T18:04:00.000-04:00Damn, another addition to my TBR pile. :)Damn, another addition to my TBR pile. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13842999.post-86392590018805495662007-09-10T11:00:00.000-04:002007-09-10T11:00:00.000-04:00Lethem is a unique talent that's for sure. Have been meaning to pick this up since I liked Motherless Brooklyn a lot as well as one of his short story collections The Wall of the Sky, The Wall of the Eye. Inventive and far out.
